Domestic violence causes more injuries to women in the United States between the ages of 15 and 44 than car accidents, muggings and rapes combined. With statistics like this, the services Laurel House provides are more important than ever.

Here are some ways you can help to combat domestic violence -

  • Make violence unacceptable in your life!
  • Request presentations for students on dating violence at you local PTO or school board meeting.
  • Listen to a woman who has revealed abuse and believe her. Assure her that the abuse is not her fault.
  • Ask your local police department to have trainings for their officers on domestic violence.
  • Ask your priest, pastor, or rabbi to have a special service devoted to violence against women and children.
  • Get the facts. Invite a speaker to address your club, business, group or organization on domestic violence.
  • Volunteer your time at Laurel House.
  • Financially support Laurel House programs and services.
  • Donate items on our wish list.
  • Organize a fund raising event for Laurel House.
  • Become a positive role model of nonviolence. Teach your children that violence is never acceptable in a relationship.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Wear a purple ribbon to show your support and commitment to the elimination of domestic violence.

Donate Goods

When a woman decides to leave a violent relationship and seek safety, more often than not, she and the children leave with the clothes on their backs and not much else. While at Laurel House, these families are provided with some basic items to help with this transition. We also provide past shelter residents and participants in our Bridge Program household items to start them on their road to violence-free lives.
