Laurel House

Domestic Violence Shelter and Services
for Abused Women and Their Children

Dating Violence Education

Laurel House's prevention programs heighten young adults' awareness of domestic violence and offer tools to aid in building healthy relationships.

65% of children who witness violence in the home enter into abusive teen and adult relationships.

10% of high school students have experienced physical violence in a dating relationship. Among college students, that figure rises to 22%.

Through our prevention and education program, we aim to break the cycle of violence by providing alternatives to the roles of victim and perpetrator.

We provide programs to middle, high school and college classes, as well as community, church and synagogue youth groups. Presentations include information about power and control, warning signs of potentially abusive behavior, safety tips, defining healthy relationships and gender role stereotyping.

To date, we have provided dating violence workshops and presentations to approximately 30 educational institutions in Montgomery County.

Presentations can be customized to suit the needs of your group. E-mail us to schedule a presentation.
